September 15, 2013: Bike Path Botany
A lovely turnout and perfect weather made this guided urban plant exploration a success. We wandered down the bike path, from the Davis Square T stop into Cambridge.
August 24, 2013: Carnivorous Plants
We had a great turnout for this hike along the Ponkapoag boardwalk, and spotted tons of carnivorous plants, including pitcher plants and sundews.
July 21, 2013: Tidepool Exploration
Scientist Abby Noyce gave us an incredible tour of tidal life on Georges Island. We took the ferry and enjoyed beautiful views, then saw starfish, sea urchins, fish, crabs, and all sorts of other strange and interesting animals.
June 22, 2013: Butterflies and Views in Woburn
Howard Hoople, president of the Massachusetts Butterfly Club, led us on a search for butterflies. Besides beautiful hairstreaks and skippers, we saw some neat dragonflies, including this halloween pennant.
April 27, 2013: Mount Auburn Cemetery Walk
We roamed in Mount Auburn Cemetery and saw a ton of wildlife, including a black swallowtail butterfly, spotted salamander eggs, coyote, turtle, frog, innumerable birds and more, plus spectacular flowers.
March 30, 2013: Nature Lives!
We explored the fungi and insects of Fresh Pond with the Friends of Fresh Pond and naturalists Larry Millman and Tom Murray. We saw tons of insects and helped find previously-unrecorded fungi.
March 3, 2013: Middlesex Fells Ramble
We hiked the ridges of the southern Fells! Highlights included spectacular views of the city, winter trees, fungi and praying mantis egg cases.
